Sessions and Tracks

Track 01: Oncology

Oncology is a branch of science that deals with identification, treatment of cancer. Cancer has become one of the major cause of death in the recent times. Among many types of cancers most common types of cancers seen in women are breast cancer, cervical cancer, lung cancer, skin cancer. Cancers are often managed through therapy like chemotherapy, radiation therapy.

Track 02: Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common kind of cancer being diagnosed in women.  Breast Cancer is commonly identified by a lump in the breast, increase in the size of one breast than the other, discoloration, oozing of white fluid from nipple.  Many women often ignore these symptoms leading to the increasing the risk of death.  Breast cancer triggering factors include family history of cancer, obesity, diabetes, life style, auto immune diseases like lupus erythematous.

Track 03: Cervical Cancer

Cervical Cancer is a type of cancer arising in cervix. This type of cancer is mostly commonly seen in people having Human papillomavirus Infections.  Other factors include usage of oral contraceptive pills at a early age, having multiple sexual partners, having more than 7 full term pregnancies.  Identification includes abnormal pain in the cervix, abnormal vaginal bleeding.

Track 04: Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian Cancer is a type of cancer which occurs in one or two of the ovaries. This type of cancer often goes undetected until it is spread to pelvis and uterus at this stage it is much difficult to treat the cancer. Risk factors often include age, family history of cancer, inherited gene mutations, estrogen replacement therapy, age when mensuration started and ended.

Track 05: Endometrial Cancer

Endometrial cancer is a type of cancer which occurs in the layers of endometrium.  This is also called as uterine cancer.  This starts in the inner lining of the uterus abnormal vaginal bleeding ranging from watery flow to more volume of blood loss.  Often it is identified by abnormal PAP tests, pelvic pain, and difficulty while urinating.

Track 06: Lung Cancer

Lung cancer has become the common disease in women than in men.  Though smoking causes lung cancer in men but in women non-smokers are more susceptible to lung cancer.  There are no proven facts that carcinogens in the cigarette are the complete cause of lung cancer.  It has been observed that the estrogen plays a major role in onset and progression of the disease.

Track 07: Cancer Screening

Early detection of cancer helps in saving the life with medication and proper therapy.  The screening of cancer cells should be done yearly or biannual which include mammograms, PAP test, and biopsy. These test help in identifying the cancer before is spreads to other parts of the body and worsen the case.

Track 08: Integrative care

To cope of with the side effects and symptoms of the cancer integrative care uses the combination of medical treatments for cancer and complementary therapies.  These therapies help to manage the patient’s strength, stamina and quality of life which are generally distorted by regular chemotherapies and high dose of medicines.  These therapies help in coping up with fatigue, depression, insomnia, nausea, vomiting etc.

Track 09: Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is one of the widely used methods of treatment in case of cancers. It is given in two ways once which is used to curb the further spread of disease and slow treatment.  The other is when there is a recurrence of the cancer.  Chemotherapy is the use of a combination of drugs to slow the growth and treat cancer.  Chemo therapy is systemic therapy which means entire body can be affected. Side effects include rapid hair fall due follicle damage, damaged inner lining of stomach hence causes diarrhea, vomiting.

Track 10: Radiation Therapy

Use of high energy radiation for the treatment of cancer is called radiation therapy.  The usage of high energy radiation kills the cancer cells or reduces the growth of cancer cells.  The type of radiation therapy is selected based on various factors like type of cancer, size of tumor, location of the tumor, general medical history, age.

Track 11: Oncology Nursing

Oncology nurses are trained nurse who help the patient, their families and their care givers support during the treatment of the cancer.  With increased treatment options, better treatment and less side effects oncology nurses help to prepare mentally and physically for the treatment routines.  As the routines are rather complex including the complex medication.  The oncology nurses should be certified chemo-bio nurse in order to administer the chemotherapies and biotherapies.

Track 12: Cancer Cell Signaling

For normal functioning and working of the body the communication between the cells is most important.  The receptor cells send signal which asks the cell what, when and how to function.  Any change or disturbances in the signaling can massive help in the progression and growth of cancer cells. The cancer cells interfere with the normal functioning of the body and send out signals similar to that of the normal cells hence immune system does not interfere with the cell functioning and growth.  During normal chemotherapy due to this phenomenon the normal actively growing cells are also destroyed. Hence cancer cell targeting therapy is being developed hence sparing the normal cells.

Track 13: Cancer Biomarkers

Biomarkers play a crucial role in the development of therapies and personalized treatments for the cancer based on the type of cancer.  These responses are generally release by tumor cells or response given by the body to indicate the presence of cancer cells.  There are a number of gene and protein based biomarkers which are often used.  The changes in the body fluids and DNA can help in easy detection of cancer.  Four biomarkers are being approved by FDA for the detection of cancer longitudinally and no biomarkers are notably being approved for breast cancer.

Track 14: Cancer: Psychological Aspects

From the diagnosis to the treatment of the cancer is a long journey that drain the patients mentally, physically and financially.  These changes in their life often lead the patient to anxiety, depression, and disturbance in the relationships with loved ones.  Hence during the treatment of cancer the psychological changes should not be ignored. Most of the time psychological changes are misinterpreted as pain by doctors.  It is very important to seek medical professional during any changes in the physical or mental state which cause unhappy or discomfort.

Track 15: Cancer Control & Population Health

The main aim is to reduce the risk of cancer, incidence and death hence enhancing the quality of life.  Various universities, organizations have launched the Cancer control and Population health divisions which does continuous research ad provides support to the cancer victims and survivors.

Track 16: Cancer Awareness and Survival

Cancer Awareness among people increases the chance of early detection of the cancer hence increasing the chances of survival.  Several campaigns are being run by various associations, hospitals and Governments. Cancer awareness is crucial is case of socioeconomically deprived areas so that people in low range cancer barrier can get help at initial stages than worsening the case leading to less chance of survival.
